Cavitron Buzzbaits for Bass Fishing
I am proud to offer you Cavitron
buzzbaits in my store, right alongside my premium, custom-made
Pro Buzzbaits.
The Cavitrons are (in my opinion) just about the best on the
market for a stock buzzbait - and I sell them in my store for
that reason. Especially when it comes to the white ones and the
black ones, with the gold, black or red blades, I can't make one
any better than that, and I don't think any other vendor makes a
better one for the price. They're things of beauty, with the
anodized colored blades, and everything else about them, the
design, the components are as good as it gets - and they're
second to none in fish-catching potential.
The Cavitron was already a great buzzbait back about five
years ago when Bobby Uhrig acquired the Cavitron company from
Bassmaster Elite pro, Lee Bailey Jr. It was already a great
buzzbait back then, with a sterling reputation for quality and
fish-catching ability.
Since taking ownership, Bobby has made improvements - the red
hooks, the anodized (not painted blades). Real key was Bobby
remodeled the 'Stealth' head to plane on the surface slower. It's
not the original head design - it's better.
Bobby went to the .040 wire for more vibration. You always
hear about vibration being important on spinnerbait wire, but
wire vibration never comes up with buzzbaits. Most buzzbaits have
super stiff .051 wire. Well, Bobby recognized that wire vibration
was just as important for buzzbaits as spinnerbaits, and switched
to a heavy duty yet higher vibe .040 wire for the Cavitron. Most
other buzzbaits don't have the high-vibe wire like the Cavitron.
Actually, it's not any one thing, but the best ideas of both
Lee Bailey and Bobby - it's the total package that makes the
Cavitron the best out there.
The Cavitron has premium components and features:
- anodized (not painted) blade
- four hole punched blade for bubbling 'fountain' effect
- set-back, long shank, oversized, red Gamakatsu hook
- dropped-down, oxbow wire bend for more solid strikes
- strong .040 diameter wire enhances vibration (most other
buzzbaits use less vibrant .051 wire)
- the streamlined, signature Cavitron keeled, fast-planing
'Stealth' head snakes through cover with great deflection
As I say, it's not any one feature that makes the Cavitron
great. It's the 'total Cavitron package'
and attention to every last detail that makes the Cavitron so
deserving of its reputation as the best mass-produced buzzbait on
the market.
Size Considerations
In terms of size, I like the 1/4 on a spinning rod and I like
the 3/8 on baitcasting. I tend to fish with both rods at once, so
you can give two presentations (in terms of speed, blade size,
color and even approach since the spinning rod with relatively
lighter line results in a different fishing approach than the
baitcaster with relatively heavier line). So you may show fish
two options by using spinning and baitcasting to cover the same
area, and you will catch more fish than just showing them only
one approach.
Color Considerations
If you want to know which colors, the black skirt and the
white skirt are both the most popular. All the blade colors are
popular. The black blade (available only with the black skirt)
and the red or gold blades are the most beautiful blades in the
business, and the blade sizes are perfect (meaning of perfect =
big), the multiple holes and even the unique degree bendage of
the cupped edges are special attributes found on Cavitron blades.
Again, it's not one specific thing - it's everything about the
Cavitron.
The black and the white are staples, and if you only get two
colors, those are the ones. The chartreuse white is at its best
from pre-spawn to post-spawn. The translucent aspect of the ghost
minnow color is good in clear water. The solid chartreuse is at
its best in dark and dirty water, especially thick shallow weeds
or reeds in dirty water.
